Lent, Westminster Confession

My sister writes a blog, she just doesn’t have a site, she uses her e-mail list instead. I am going to try and set her up on a blog, until then I am just going to use her on my site, she always finds good stuff and you might like it…

I wanted to be true to my warning so here’s another email coming your way. This reading reminds me that God is God. As a human I always try to put God into my itsy bitsy mind and think I’ve got it. But..by golly I still don’t get it. He is so much more than I can understand.

Even though God does not need my sacrifice to be God I’m gonna observe Lent in a different way this year. Greg and I agreed to add something to our day (as a good habit) instead of sacrificing something (a bad habit). We are going to walk 30 minutes to an hour a day. We get Sundays off during Lent. When we are together it will be a nice time away from distractions to be together and converse, etc. So there you have it. Enjoy the section below and reflect on our great, infinite, Sovereign, and I pray He will manifest His glory upon us.

love, Ellen

From The Westminster Confession of Faith, Chapter II
Of God, and of the Holy Trinity

II. God hath all life, glory, goodness, blessedness, in and of Himself; and is alone in and unto Himself all-sufficient, not standing in need of any creatures which He hath made, nor deriving any glory from them, but only manifesting His own glory in, by, unto, and upon them. He is the alone fountain of all being, of whom, through whom, and to whom are all things; and hath most sovereign dominion over them, to do by them, for them, or upon them whatsoever Himself pleaseth. In His sight all things are open and manifest, His knowledge is infinite, infallible, and independent upon the creature, so as nothing is to Him contingent, or uncertain. He is most holy in all His counsels, in all His works, and in all His commands. To Him is due from angels and men, and every other creature, whatsoever worship, service, or obedience He is pleased to require of them.
